A little bit of historical/histerical reflection on the color of
earth/ground.
In North America the ground was green; in Europe the ground was
yellow. Early on it was recognized that this needed to be harmonized to
insure that equipment was properly installed in either system.
The compromise was to use both colors. So we have ended up with a
green w/yellow stripe (or perhaps a yellow w/green stripe. There are
specific requirements as to the coverage of the minor color, it can't be too
small.
