Therefore, it is not necessary to maintain the basic test setup described in the main body of this standard.² This means that the standard layouts in Figures 2 4, as well as the use of a LISN and ground plane at all, don¹t apply. It doesn't hurt to use the standard set-up, but it isn¹t required.
The reason for this, especially relative to RE103, is this. In many cases, RE103 cannot be performed in a MIL-STD-461-sized chamber. The EUT might have to be transported to a SAC or OATS not normally used for 461 measurements. There is no need, under these conditions, to try to replicate a 461 set-up in the specialized facility. To a lesser extent, the same could be true for CE106. The collection of notch, high and low pass filters might not be available at the typical EMI test facility, but the radio manufacturer would have this type of equipment, so it could make more sense to test in-house and farm out the standard tests to a commercial EMI test house. The manufacturer would then not need to have EMI test equipment around, just the rf test equipment he needs and already has. Therefore, it is not necessary to maintain the basic test setup described in the main body of this standard.² It is logical to reason that there is no need to ³maintain the basic test setup² when conducting CE106. There are no antenna¹s in the setup. Therefore chamber reflections are not an issue, so we expect the results to be independent from that standpoint. So I am apparently missing something. How could RE103 emissions measured in either a anechoic chamber or OATS be independent of the test setup configuration? What is really meant by ³the basic test setup described in the main body of this standard.²? And yes, I¹ve checked 461E, which reads essentially the same. Charles D.
