As shared previously, the latest Committee Draft for Vote (CDV) for Edition No. 2 of IEC 62368-1 (108/495A/CDV) was distributed in December and had a closing date for voting by TC108 National Committee Participating (P) members of March 1, 2013.

This was an important vote since a successful vote will advance the document to the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) phase, the last phase before publication of Ed. No. 2 as an international (IEC) standard.

We are able to report at this time that IEC TC108 has reached a consensus ‘Yes’ position to move the document forward to FDIS. This positive development helps further justify the considerable hard work and resources devoted to the effort by the many experts and national committees working on the document.

Technical comments submitted by National Committee that accompany their CDV votes will be discussed at the next meeting of IEC TC108, scheduled for the week of March 17 in Bangkok, Thailand. Subsequently, the FDIS will be issued, at which time only editorial changes can be made to the document before publication as an IEC standard.

Upon a successful (final) vote on the FDIS, the Edition No. 2 of IEC 62368-1 likely would be published in Q3 or Q4 this year (2013).

We can also report via our UL participation on CENELEC CLC/TC 108X that we have received notice the parallel voting within CENELEC on the EN version of the 62368-1 CDV also is positive/affirmative, which is another significant development. This successful vote provides greater likelihood the Ed. 2 of 62368-1 will be adopted in Europe, and eventually other regions.

In Canada & the U.S., CSA and UL via the Technical Harmonization Committee (THC) already is planning activity for work and eventual adoption of Ed. 2 as a Canadian & U.S. bi-national standard. This publication could occur by Summer 2014.

We will keep this group posted on related developments, as will we also keep updated the UL.com 62368-1 web area: http://www.ul.com/global/eng/pages/offerings/industries/hightech/informationtechnology/iec623681/ <http://www.linkedin.com/e/5jfxgg-he1j23x1-4a/plh/http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eul%2Ecom%2Fglobal%2Feng%2Fpages%2Fofferings%2Findustries%2Fhightech%2Finformationtechnology%2Fiec623681%2F/rxcx/?hs=false&tok=2dPWgLO6QYAlE1>
