What are major differences among different versions of the IEC
61000-4-6? My copy is Ed 2.2. I was about to purchase Ed 3.0.
However, I noted a forecast publication date of Ed 4.0 is 2013-08-15,
less than six months from today. Should I go ahead purchasing Ed 3.0?
It is not easy to tell, but probably. Although the draft Ed.4 passed its
first voting stage, there are 23 pages of comments on it, accommodation
of some of which will certainly involve text changes, and the forecast
publication date looks optimistic. In any case, what is a minor change
for some equipment may be a major change for other equipment.
Future IEC and CISPR standards will include information in the Foreword
on changes from the previous edition.
FROM Directives part 2 6.1.3
The specific part (supplied by the committee secretariat) shall give a
statement of significant technical changes from any previous edition of
the document and as many of the following as are appropriate:
d) an indication of any other international organization that has
contributed to the preparation of the document;
e) a statement that the document cancels and replaces other documents in
whole or in part;
f) the relationship of the document to other documents (see 5.2.1.3);
g) in IEC, an indication of the next stability date (see ISO/IEC
Directives, Supplement — Procedures specific to IEC).
WARNING - At present the CENELEC adoptions of IEC standards as ENs omit
the IEC Foreword, so, unless this is changed, will omit the valuable
information on changes between editions.
