Am I missing something (always possible). Is the test computer in the RF test field or outside the test field? If only required for the test setup and not part of the device under test and you are doing radiated emissions and immunity, a long I/O cable with a bunch of ferrite and / or a decoupling network should take the computer out of the picture entirely. If doing conducted emissions and immunity, powering from a filtered source should be enough. If doing immunity on the I/O ports, you may need a really good CDN. I have had occasion where a laptop which was not the DUT failed the testing and we could not continue until corrected. Otherwise I am unaware of a regulatory restriction on their use for testing. Iâm looking at updating my computer for EMC testing. In this case the computer is the support equipment rather than the host. Beyond just finding a âquietâ computer I would like to know if there is any reason under ANSI C 64 or CISPR 22
etc that would prohibit me from buying an all-in-one computer. Essentially the monitor is included inside the same housing that also contains the actual processor and mother board. I still have the various USB and Video outputs such as HDMI. So I still hook
up keyboards and USB devices â in most cases the USB device is my actual test article. The benefit is simply that I donât have to play around with a separate monitor and itâs cabling and associated noise. I had been advised against once by a test facility when I suggested I was going to move from a desktop to a laptop to try and minimized the test platform. Iâm not sure why it would be prohibited or if they are actually correct. I canât
find a reason behind it other than the antiquated test setups currently identified in the standards. Has anyone else run into an actual prohibition? Laptops themselves being the glaring exception to the standard test setup.
