I have a customer whom makes a piece of laboratory equipment that
consists of 4 parts, each part having its own power supply. The
customer would like to claim that they sell a power strip with the
system, and all four power cords plug into the strip and therefore only
one set of power cord tests needs to be performed for Immunity.
For Emissions it is clear per EN 55011 that each power cord must be
tested for conducted emissions, for Immunity it gets a little less
clear. Should each power cord be tested individually for EFT, Surge,
CRFI and VDI, or can I use the customer supplied power strip and
perform the testing once.
If the product is sold as a single item (with the power strip) at an
inclusive price, in Europe it is a 'system' and has to be tested as a
whole, i.e. as if it were all in one box. Conducted emission testing
would be done on the single mains lead from the power strip to the wall
socket.
This is actually much better explained in older versions of the EMC
guide.
