What does "stressed only by d.c." mean? How are Mains Circuits stressed by
d.c.?

Hi Other Brian:

One must distinguish between ac mains and dc mains.

dc mains are not subject to the same overvoltages as
are ac mains. Therefore, dc mains are not as "stressed"
as ac mains. (ac mains don't have dc, so ac mains
cannot be stressed by dc.)

This concept is not widely recognized by those writing
requirements.

Best regards,
Rich
