Actually Ghery, a lot is going to change. South Africa has a 10-20 year
plan to completely move away from the old BS 546 style plug. That just was
regulated recently so not much has probably changed just yet. They have a
lot of different plug types in their SANS 164 standards and I am trying to
figure out if that means anything or the BS 546 style is the only way to
market as of right now. Wonder if an adapter is legal?

Dan,

South Africa uses the old British Empire plug that is also used in India.
When we were there in 2005 for the CISPR meetings that was the only socket I
saw. Granted, that was 9 years ago, but I doubt the country has made a
major change in that time.

Subject: [PSES] Plugs in South Africa

Group,

A few questions on South Africa power plugs. I have been looking through
SANS 164 described plugs and it appears that SANS 164-2 Sheet 2-7 describes
the Europlug mechanically, though not by direct reference to CEE 7/16..
Does anyone know if a class II household appliance with a Europlug is
acceptable to NRCS in South Africa? Are outlets commonly available in
homes? Is power cord wiring and ENEC on the plug accepted?

The SANS 164-1 plug is probably the one in widespread use but I am trying to
avoid a new plug configuration if possible.

Regards,
