First, my sympathies in that you have to go to LA: the Bay Area's weather will 
be much better by comparison. As soon as you leave Customs/TSA, consider buying 
a good bottle of California wine.  With the lead, sulfites  & other 
unmentionables (Acetaldehyde, Dimethyl Dicarbonate, Trypsin, etc.) in the wine, 
you & your lead John, will look good by comparison!  And, you may be able to 
hail a taxi faster with wine in hand...
