Hi Ian, In my opinion, Wi-Fi certifications should remain intact if you have copies of their EMC/Safety Reports. Unintentional (radiated/conducted) emissions should be reevaluated with the new wall wart PSU or system configuration. Immunity, I think 4-4, 4-5, 4-6 and 4-11 would be applicable in this new system configuration as well. Product Safety for North America needs to evaluated due to the new PSU even if it has NRTL listing or recognition. In Europe (CE Mark countries) your level of due diligence needs assessment again based off of EN60950-1. Then with the proper evidence placed appropriately in you technical file one option is to self declarate for CE Mark. If you are questioning the integrity of the router (in any capacity) then you should repeat all applicable testing including Wi-Fi. Did I mention RoHS, do you have evidence of compliance? You should always question what you have and if you can determine that a high level of diligence was applied to the system under test move forward. Remember, your company is liable for the integrity of the marks represented on your product shipping out of your facility not the guy/girl in China.

We are looking at purchasing a WLAN (Wi-Fi) router from China and include our own wall wart power supply with it. The router comes with all the necessary approvals and safety reports tested with its own wall wart psu. However; are these documents still valid it we swap the PSU with our own PSU? Our own wall wart psu is approved. Many thanks in advance. Ian McBurney Design & Compliance Engineer. Allen & Heath Ltd. Kernick Industrial Estate, Penryn, Cornwall. TR10 9LU.
