Hello Ralph,

It's been nine years since I worked for APC, now another Schneider Electric
company. Back then, APC had some inverters that plugged into the lighter/power
socket of cars and they were tested to EN 60950-1 for Europe. You might look at
IEC 62040 series standards for additional information. Since they cover
uninterruptible power supplies, they should have the additional information
required for the DC to AC conversion requirements. Most of the requirements
were either based off of IEC 60950-1 or were quite similar to IEC 60950-1
requirements. It's likely that the IEC 62040 series will mainly add
requirements based on the energy storage in the batteries and the risk of
feeding power back from the batteries to the line input depending on UPS
configuration. Your automotive inverter doesn't have that issue and may be
suitably tested to EN 60950-1 for Europe.

may be a dramatic reenactment.

Subject: Re: [PSES] safety standard - mobile inverters

Dear group,

I am looking for suggestions on best-fit product safety standard for LVD for a
230V inverter intended for vehicular use only. (buses & small trucks)

Test lab suggests EN60950, which I dismissed. EN50178 and EN60335-1 don’t
appear to be suitable. I’m really looking for an IEC equivalent to UL458

Thanks,
