The situation is technically not good, but in practical terms is
tolerable, I suppose, because such EMI incidents are rather rare, so
up-front avoidance measures are not economically justified. Luckily, we
have EMI experts to diagnose and fix such problems as they occur.

Nice. Seems as if a simpler fix would be a set of directional antennas
for the gas station’s 915 MHz link, yielding higher intentional signal
and if the antennas are properly oriented relative to the suspected
interference source, diminishing the interference level.
