Well, I have to add that the postscript is a full-featured programming language that uses stack and RPN notation, and stack to do everything. It has about the same age as C. A one year younger I think. The main features are STACK-based programming, integrated graphic processor, the whole program is interpreted, not compiled; easy to learn.
I use PS for generating many things, it has disk I/O too. The main advantage from user point of view is the unlimited substitution level and definition syntax. This allows you o create your very own expessions (the first you learn is how to define milimeter "mm" in your program writing.)
