I tried to do this not too long ago. My kernel would always panic and crash on boot. On the RTAI mailing list several people reported the same problem, and the RTAI maintainer said it works for him. I did not see any more talk about it, and I went on to other things since I was just playing. I suggest joining the RTAI mailing list and asking there after checking for information in their new manual. I don't know of any EMC users using an SMP kernel. For the benefit of other EMC folks, please keep track of what you do, and once you get it working, report back!
