The var file is read at startup. It is written out to disk on shutdown. Tests here suggest that it is re-read after an abort so if you have changed or incremented a value within the program before an abort, the value will revert to that held in the var file rather than the current value when the abort is commanded. I tested this by putting the following two lines in the .var file.
1000 1.0000 1001 2.0000 The following program tested it. I interrupted execution several places with the same result.
