Hello all, I have been progressing on retrofitting an old Tien Chien milling
machine for mainly aluminium machining work. Observation of the X/Y worm
drives on the mill present a diameter of 23.5mm and a pitch of 2.5mm (10
tpi). I believe that this gearing is designed for wood working, would it be
suitable for milling aluminium? My calculations show that i am running out
of torque on stepper motors, but may be possible if I reduce the depth of
cut. Any suggestions?

Colin
