Does it not bother you that whomever does own the copyrights on the files 
Paul listed, could decide to issue a C&D letter based on a percieved 
copyright violation?

Ditto if somehow a patent gets involved.  Either way, its conceivable that 
someone could be awarded outlandish damages against a project that 
basicly has no funds from sales to pay them.

My view is that any license that prevents the above scenario, is a 
reasonably good one.  The GPLv2 (without the 'or any later' wording would 
appear to fit that description.  So would anything labeled 'public 
domain' but that wouldn't result in the protections available from the 
FSF's legal team should push come to shove.

I don't recall having read your views vis-s-vis the licensing of emc2.  
Can you supply a reference url?
