Thanks to all, including Sven, for their thoughts on this.

Machine comes up clean as far as viruses go (as far as I can tell). I
just d/l'd ISObuster, and (interestingly) Session 1 Track 1 is shown
with the nominal (correct) size. So it seems that the extra 300 bytes
are "wrapper" of some kind(?)

I've tried d/l'ing using right and left click with Opera, Firefox and
even IE, and they all so far have been that different size & checksum.
I left a d/l running at work and will check it tomorrow.

Tonight, IFF I can get the USB WiFi interface and my thumb drive
working with the Ubuntu 7.04 LiveCD I've got, I'll try the
download-the-ISO-to-thumb-drive-using-Linux idea.

More if I learn more,
