The Hershey fonts (public domain, as long as they aren't in one particular data format) contain a single line font. Jeff Epler has them on his site: http://emergent.unpythonic.net/software/hershey A GPL'ed Hershey to g-code utility is on my to-do list, but I'm pretty busy at the moment, so don't hold your breath.
