Hi, Well, I seem to have everything working OK now. I installed a completely new system on a clean PC (not because I though there was anything wrong with the other PC but because I wanted to use a spare machine with a faster processor) from the latest EMC2 live CD and then updated it to the latest cvs version. I based my new ini file on the Inch.ini in 'stepper-xyza', changing it to metric and putting in my values. The resulting file for anyone who is interested is at http://tinyurl.com/3b642y in pastebin.
Alex - I had understood about the 60x division in AXIS and my values now reflect this. With ordinary steppers and basic L297/L298 half step drivers I am now getting 240mm/min on the linear axes and 2277degree/min on the rotary axis. The linear ones may actually go a bit faster but I haven't tried to push them yet. Two things I have noticed though are: 1. There seems to be an upper (lower?) limit to BASE_PERIOD - even changing to the new machine with a 2800+ AMD processor, the system gets decidedly fragile with a BASE_PERIOD below 18,000 which is what I also got the other machine - a 1700+ AMD processor - to run at. 2. The ini files shipped with the various example configurations - the stepper ones at least - don't conform to the 'model' in the WIKI. For example, DEFAULT_ANGULAR_VELOCITY appears in the TRAJ section whereas the WIKI says it should be in the DISPLAY section......this also applies to several other things although I suppose that, so long as they are roughly in the same order in the overall file, it doesn't really matter??? -- Best wishes, Ian ____________ Ian W.
