Hey, great to see that you've found a way out of the dial-up hole you were stuck in. AT&T was so focused on killing my Covad DSL that they broke my phone line, and have probably spent $10K so far with 3 service calls a week for the last couple months. I had to go to cable modem, but it has been pretty stable. The downside is non-consistent performance, it really slows down in the late evening.
*************** To answer a previous question in this thread, I built a rack-mount box with an ATX motherboard and all other stuff inside. I never even bothered with the bracket to hold the cards in, just left them dangling in their PCI connectors. This ran for about 7 years until it just got too obsolete in terms of CPU speed, memory, etc. to run Ubuntu, and I was forced to upgrade. It was an Intel mobo, and I was even able to get the mounting hole locations from an online document, and drilled the mounting holes in the internal panel by CNC.
