Gentlemen, I asked a question about Ubuntu, xorg and EMC a few weeks ago. I think I just found my answer. When EMC was running xorg was using up to 98% of the CPU. The computer was very slow and jumpy. The DELL desktop 1 gig processor w/ 512meg ram and the onboard video output with 4 meg of ram was painfully inadequate to run the latest update of Ubuntu and EMC. Using 'top' I would watch xorg slowly creep up to 95%-98% of cpu usage. Mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen response would be horrible. Today, I put a video card with 128 meg of ram. This helped the response considerably but the xorg cpu usage hovered around 70%. I put a card with 256 meg of ram. This helped a tremendous amount. The mouse, keyboard, touchscreen response is very crisp. The xorg cpu usage hovers around 12%. All you need to do is use a bigger hammer. It will finally work. It seems as if Ubuntu is taking more video resources with every update. Is there an image of a minimalist install? thanks Stuart
