A general scheme might be to increase P until oscillation, then increase ** D **, not I. I don't think I will have any effect to reduce oscillation, but in some circumstances, D may help. It depends on the nature of the oscillation. > Oscillation starts at 400 P and I cant get rid of it with a 3000 I > D is zero > The axis will run good with 100 P 5 I 1.2 D with no following errors > at 500ipm Accell is 25 min follow .002 maxfollow .05 > There is a slight high pitch buzz in the motors at these settings > The drives are Fanuc, motors are also > There are 3 adjustment pots on the drives themselves could > these adjustments on the drives be keeping me from tuning properly? Yes, they probably have a complete PID loop in the drive already. In this case, you may get better results with a lower P, and zero I and D, if the drive is performing a tight control of the motor. What following error are you getting in your tests? Are you using Halscope when tuning? > I have no documentation on the drives > anyone had any luck tuning Fanuc drives? > > Also in an unrelated question-I tried to use G64.1 exact stop mode > and I get an improper code alarm The reason I tried this is > a G0 x5.0 then G0y5.0 will get me a radius in the tool path instead of > a square corner A fast feed move( 120 ipm) of the same locations will > get a smaller radius but still not square. I think G64.1 requires a P word to set the following tolerance. So, you would code G61.1 P0.005 or something like that.
