It will work with an 8 wire motor - you can always connect the coils of 
an eight wire motor in series or parallel (your choice) to make it into 
a four wire motor.  Series will double the motors nominal voltage while 
keeping the current the same, parallel will double the nominal current 
while keeping the voltage the same.
