Um, an editing session for that particular .ini file might be in order.  Start 
by adding another 0 to the BASE_THREAD period setting, too small a value 
there will freeze the machine if the machine isn't fast enough.  Actually 
there are three PERIOD settings, add a zero to all 3.  It may be slow, but 
shouldn't freeze then.

OTOH, I've not had the 'guru' blessing from this 'inner circle' you speak of, 
I must have skipped class that day.  73 year old diabetic old farts tend to 
be selective about what we learn. :-)

As for editors, there are several available.  I'm partial to the vi/vim 
offerings myself.
