Yes, there should be a mouse or keyboard (or both).  If nothing else, 
for choosing what g-code file to run.  You will have to manipulate 
ordinary File->Open type dialogs, etc.

Buttons can make things nicer, but they don't replace the keyboard.  The 
main strength of real buttons is that it is easier to find a button when 
you are looking elsewhere (such as at the tool, for touch off or something).
