Well maybe what i am doing is not exactly adecuate for what you need,
but here it is anyway:

I built a 3D wood router to engrave signs and images and use the
image-to-gcode script from emc to generate them but I found that
sometimes i need to scale or smooth the image, so i look for other
options and found that Blender can create a 3D relief from an image
and do the other things but can't generate G-Code, that's where
Freemill enters to fill the gap.

The process goes like this:
Generate a 3D Mesh in Blender and export it to STL format.
Open the STL file with Freemill enter the various parameters
as you need and finally select the general postprocessor
and you have a EMC compatible G-Code file.

Hope that this helps to what you need.

Regards.
