A lot of the time I am making one-offs so I use the machine in
semi-manual mode. I use the MPGs (500 line encoders with proper hand
wheels) and mix in MDI moves as needed. This gives the 'hands on'
approach of a manual with the quick, accurate positioning of a CNC.
Currently I have to keep switching between manual and MDI modes. I use
Mach on my mill and the mix of MDI and manual is pretty seamless, though
the MPG response isn't nearly as sharp as EMC.
