Gene I went to the site and tried to down load right from the site after I couldnt get it done with the cd. I tried both, the image and then the down load and install. The cd that I have was made by somebody else but it did have several files in it. I must be doing something wrong .Thanks Ron

Installing ubuntu 8.04 LTS and then the latest emc will not I think do that. However, be aware that emc demands a hardware parallel port that meets certain specs, and laptops haven't had one of those in many years. You can run it in emulation mode on the laptop I believe, but not actually drive the machinery since they have no port. Almost any desktop machine with 383 megs of ram, and a gigahertz or faster cpu & a good par port with a separate video card can be used. Emc isn't a game & doesn't need that sort of speed.
