Gene  I went to the site and tried to down load right from the site after I
couldnt get it done with the cd. I tried both, the image and then the down load
and install.  The cd that I have was made by somebody else but it did have
several files in it. I must be doing something wrong .Thanks Ron

Its an .iso image, how did you burn it to the cd?  If you look at the cd with
a dir command, do you see a whle bunch of files, or just the file by the same
name as you downloaded?  If you see the single file, you burned it using the
wrong mode.

Generally correct for that version I believe.  Installing ubuntu 8.04 LTS and
then the latest emc will not I think do that.  However, be aware that emc
demands a hardware parallel port that meets certain specs, and laptops haven't
had one of those in many years.  You can run it in emulation mode on the
laptop I believe, but not actually drive the machinery since they have no
port.

Almost any desktop machine with 383 megs of ram, and a gigahertz or faster cpu
& a good par port with a separate video card can be used.  Emc isn't a game &
doesn't need that sort of speed.  Troll through the goodwill store or flea
markets for something usable.
