The 7i43 does a great job with servos, as long as you have a good EPP parallel port. The hm2-servo/7i43 sample configs should give you a place to start, just choose the "big" config if you have the 400 Kgate FPGA and the "small" config if you have the 200 Kgate. With 4 servo channels it takes about 100-200 microseconds to service the 7i43, so a 5 KHz servo loop is doable (and way overkill, 1 KHz is more typical).
