Yes, emcrsh basically does operational control of the machine, while halrmt
provides access to hal. For the purposes of user interfaces, emcrsh is often
sufficient but if you need access to hal, then use halrmt.

No, emcsh is not built any more, emcrsh is unaffected. It just so happens
that emcrsh was based on emcsh.
