I suppose it depends on how many pins are available. This is a parallel port system but I am assuming only a 2-axis (ie Lathe) one, so there might be enough pins for the job. My lathe has a milling head but even then I had enough pins for 3 axis limit/home switches and a 2-channel (pulse and index) spindle encoder. It was actually the pin shortage that persuaded me to switch to a 7i43 card configuration.
