I use dxf2gcode (http://code.google.com/p/dxf2gcode/), it never failed  
on me.
It's just not a handy tool, you cannot save settings and you cannot  
zoom in, use layers etc,
not sure what it's status is though.

However, the good news is that it has never failed on my, and runs  
nicely along qcad.
