as well as in the output of the shell command 'dmesg' and in the terminal
That I suspect is an x user number incompatibility, Ubuntu starts users
at #1000, the rest of the world starts at #500. The session was started with
an "ssh -Y -l gene shop". OTOH, some gfx stuff does work, and I did see
the new 2.4.3 splash screen. Another x app, gedit, also works fine,
displaying its screen remotely with no noticeable wibbles.
