This discussion has been about measuring the tool's length and writing it
into the tlo offset register (file). The method I was desiring (and now
have) is to use a standard height set gage on the machine table top, move
the tool axis down to the gage height, use the 'set tool' option in touchy
to G10 L11 P(tool offset number) Z0 and have the control calculate the tool
length to an arbitrary number that matches the tool length measured on an
offline tool length measuring machine.
This gives the same tool length on the Enshu as is used on the Cinci. I
will set the Dahlih and G&L to work with the same tool length. All EMC2
machines in the shop will set tool lengths the same way and use the same
tool length value for the same tool. It should be nice for the Cinci, Enshu
and G&L as they are all 50 taper machines. The Cinci and G&L even have the
same retention knob. The Cinci and G&L sit side by side and will be able to
use the same tool setup with the same tool length. This will allow a common
tool file in the future.
The method Chris implemented uses the G59.3 work coordinate system offset
to calculate the tool length. This allows the adjustment of the measured
result to match the desire tool measured length.

Beautiful is writing same markup. Internet Explorer 9 supports
standards for HTML5, CSS3, SVG 1.1, ECMAScript5, and DOM L2 & L3.
Spend less time writing and rewriting code and more time creating great
experiences on the web. Be a part of the beta today.
