I am no expert either, and I did not really understand,  what exactly
You did and what instructions did You follow, but it seems to me, that
EMC did not install.
Could You try this link from that machine?
http://www.linuxcnc.org/lucid/emc2-install.sh

Save the file, right click and in "permissions" and mark "allow
execution of file" or something similar. Then doubleclick on it - it
should ask for Your password and automagically install EMC2.
