Yes, I do this.  I think even Netscape could do this, but certainly TB 
can.  I set up a
bunch of folders for all mail lists, like this one, and the messages are 
sorted into the
appropriate groups.  I also have  a list of keywords (Viagra, for 
instance) that are very
ulikely to appear in a valid post, and it dumps them.  Also, it has 
adaptive junk filters
that are very good, but not perfect.  So, I keep the trash folder for 
about a week, then
delete what is more than a week old.  If something expected doesn't show 
up, I can quickly
scan the trash for it.

This is done in TB BEFORE I read them.  So, I can see all the discussion 
in a group
all together, that helps keep the context in mind.
