I don't know the history of this.. but have you done the basic? -boot off the livecd and run mem check? (hit the escape key when it starts booting off the cd and you see the little icon on the bottom of the screen (looks like a keyboard and a person iirc))
-overheating? -hd issues? I have run emc on a lot of systems testing.. I had the computer physically lock up when the harddrive started getting relocated sectors.
