The tap makers in general don't think tapping the whole hole with the bottoming tap is a good idea Igor, short life, not enough chip storage in the grooves etc. It really should be used to clean up the last 2 or 3 threads at the bottom of the hole if the hole is more than 2x tap diameter deep. I have pushed the issue, and wound up learning how to do EDM to get rid of the resultant broken tap. I broke it backing out. :( I wish I had room for your old Clausing. I'm sure I could find something to do with it. :-) -- Cheers, Gene "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
