Welcome to the friendliest and most helpful list I've ever had the good fortune to participate in. The wiki can throw up useful stuff: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl And the list archive: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.emc.user can be searched from that page (little green box). The search engine seems OK. I just tried "spindle encoder", and it came up with 68 relevant hits. That would be a good supplement to the wiki, I think. (I've sorted the most informative list posts over the last few years into 258 categories, here, but the gmane search probably makes that unnecessary.) And if that doesn't find sufficient clues, then it's probably at least helped clarify the question for the list. > > 2) I'm designing the wire harness for a 2 dimensional CNC plasma cutter. Both of the above links will provide interesting reading on "limit switches", and in particular: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Homing_And_Limit_Switch is worth looking at before starting to wire things up.
