The AD590JH and AD592 are my favorite temperature sensors, especially 
for remote sensing.
They are a current source, where current is proportional to absolute 
temperature.  Room temperature
(20 C) is 293 uA.  You can read this with a DVM and a 9 V battery.  I 
have a signal conditioning
board and feed this to a very old-school multiplexed ADC.  it used to be 
hooked to my VAX, but
now that the VAX is retired, it is connected to my one of my Linux machines.
