IMO, you need to stick to the lastest distribution. The further back you go the more bugs you will encounter.
A couple of other tools you can use to make things easier.. If you want to show us your error, take a screen shot of it - the print screen key works - save the image and post it on a place like Tinypic.com (there are a lot of other ones also). Then send us a message and include the URL to the picture. If you want to post your configuration files.. you can use Pastebin.com and post them there and then again send us the URL along with the description of your problem... Most of us take these things for granted but they can be very helpful to get your system debugged and interact with the group. This "not homed issue" is probably a minor configuration error..
