OK, so I've confirmed a few things on this system, X axis only:

For these purposes, X+ is moving the table left, X- is moving the table
right.

1) positive voltage to the servo amp drives the X axis in the X+ direction,
negative voltages drives it in the X- direction.
2) I've verified the encoders reflect the correct direction moved.
3) In the pncconf open loop test, with "Invert motor direction" unchecked,
the motors move in X- direction when the "+" button is pushed and X+
direction when the "-" button is pushed. When the "Invert motor direction"
box is checked, this is corrected and the motors move in the expected
direction. In the case of "invert motor direction" checked,OUTPUT _SCALE is
being set to -1.0 in the INI file.
4) After saving that configuration, just putting the machine on results in
-9.8 volts read out on the voltmeter.
5) This is confirmed via halmeter, where pid.x.output is -10, but
pid.x.feedback is 0

this seems backwards, but I've got some time tonight to play with it to try
and figure it out.

Again, very strange is if I have the X axis such that it moves X- when the
"+" button is pressed in the open loop test, then it is somewhat more stable
(takes longer to reach the following error), but voltmeter output shows that
(with servos disabled), the further I move X+, the it puts out a positive
voltage, which would want to further move the X+ direction.
