AFAIK it has never been encouraged to run EMC on virtual machines. First of all, due to incredible latency numbers. I have not been playing much with virtual machines, but I have noticed that getting host's i/o ports, like usb and lpt, accessible to guest sometimes gets tricky. I suspect that usb in virtual machine is implemented in a way that does not allow for hid to work normally.
