Every where I 'worked' I mounted a vise and lathe chuck on a corner of the table and tried to leave them in place all the time. The vise is dialed in with the top of the jaw, the face of the jaw and each end of the jaw at a known location on the table. The lathe chuck (mounted to a plate) is in known location. A quick job is MPG'd, MDI'd or programmed in a minute or two (usually quicker than a manual mill). In a shop - Manual mills have a useful place, CNC mills have a useful place.
