That helped, but I had to reboot it 5 or 6 times cuz everytime I rebooted, /etc/resolv.conf that I was carefully adding with nano disappeared! Then, once I had it working locally, but no dns, I did use that network gui to add everything I had already done by hand, and finally the SOB un-ghosted the "apply" button, something it would not ever do previously. Then I added /etc/resolv.conf for the 5th time & I could finally ping yahoo.com. Whether it (/etc/resolv.conf) will survive the next reboot I have NDI, but it is finally connected and is pulling in as much as it can find in the way of updates, but I doubt if it will find emc. I assume the package list need refreshed once more after it pulls in the 366 pkgs it will find if they aren't too stale. ISTR I had to refresh the pkg list 4 times when I installed on the mills new box about 8 weeks back. That is the first time in probably 10 years I have been forced to use nano to edit stuff. Anyway, now we know the port hardware is good. ;-) Thanks Mark, that link was just what the Dr. ordered Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
