Ouch. Or, as my grandkids would say with more than a touch of irony,
"thanks for clearing that up."

Complaints of OpenGL graphics not being displayed in a window pane which
is filled instead with white or gray show up from time to time in
Internet land. Usually, the recommendation is to upgrade the graphics
driver because of such arcane nonsense like "driver x.x.x doesn't
recognize non-powers-of-2 textures" (a comment I found yesterday
regarding a user's problem with a malfunctioning imaging package). I
presume this means the driver writer skipped over some aspect of the
OpenGL spec.

However, since the LinuxCNC 2.5 you compiled in openSUSE 11.3 works in
openSUSE 12.1 I have a hard time faulting the driver.

Now that I think about it, I suppose the the problem could be lower down
the graphics chain than Tkinter---some openGL library component which
changed between the two O/S releases. Yuck.

Maybe Jeff Eppler or Chris Radak has better insight into this problem.

I have just experienced a similar (but related? don't know) problem
with NetFabb Studio Basic (a program for viewing, validating, repairing,
and modifying meshed surfaces). The Windows-executable works fine on my
Windows 7 box. The developers have now released an executable built in
Debian Linux. Just for fun, I installed it in a Ubuntu 10.04LTS virtual
machine running in VirtualBox on the same Windows 7 box. Works fine. For
completeness, I installed it in a Ubuntu 12.04LTS virtual machine, where
it fails with the same kind of blank window-pane nonsense. I don't have
a "real" Ubuntu 12.04LTS installation to try but I expect it would fail
there too.

I suppose I could have done some digging to see what library
components are being linked in dynamically but my todo list is already
waaay too long. Instead, I contented myself in sending a message to the
developers.

Regards,
Kent
