The HostMot2 resolver interface is absolute (for one electrical resolver turn 
anyway), and its driver code does some things like index/index enable 
emulation that would need to be added to a absolute encoder interface to make 
use of the current LinuxCNC homing on index options.

Of course with a full travel absolute encoder homing is not needed...

The hostmot2 firmware has both SSI and BISS absolute encoder interfaces built 
in but untested and with no driver support currently.
