Generalisations on diesels are dangerous, and can be costly. Over here in the UK we pay a yearly road tax, price bands are based on manufacturers stated CO2 emissions if type first registered after 2001.Prior to that there are only two bands, under 1549cc and over. Mine is a 1996 2.8 Mitsubishi Turbo diesel - my tested emissions are lower than many modern cars with a 1litre engines yet I pay at least twice as much!! An unfair generalisation....
