Speaking in general terms here, a motor with an inductance of 64 mH is
going to need an expensive, very high voltage driver if its to dance to our
music, likely 300+ volts.

The 425oz nema 23's I had to put in my lathe's x screw when I found the
smaller 50 oz wasn't up to the needed torque, were 8 wire, and in 4 wire
parallel mode the 2M542 driver is out of amps before it has full current,
but the speed is truly impressive for a stepper. I haven't explored its
speed limit since I got the ball screw usable just yesterday, but with that
screw, a 2.5mm pitch, 100 ipm seems within reach. I need a better power
transformer for that setup anyway, preferably a toroid that can supply 500
watts into a FW bridge at 45 volts. They seem to be made out of
unobtainium though... This one, a conventional E/I core is telegraphing
its heat to everything else in the box, not at all good after several
hours. I'm asking it for about 6 amps at 39 VDC.

Cheers, Gene
